Waste, so serious

Artist: Jody Lawson

Using scrap material, I looked at the colours I had to work with and decided to create the joker, friends donated any colours that I didn’t have. I set about cutting pieces into 5cm squares. A first I was very particular, using a template for each square, but by the end, (when I realised, I need over 2,300 squares) it was ‘close enough is good enough.’
To hang, I used a handle of a broken mop! and some twine from dad’s hay bales. Waste so Serious, is a play on the Joker’s “Why so serious” to highlight how seriously we need to be thinking about the waste we create.
