Our preschoolers have been exploring endangered and vulnerable Australian wildlife. In particular the effect plastics have upon our sea creatures such as turtles, penguins and dugongs. “People should put their rubbish in the bin,” Oliver. “Turtles eat it and they can’t breathe,” Harper. “It kills the sea animals and they are endangered,” Fraser. “Fishing lines get stuck on them too,” Lachlan “and they are made of plastic.” The Western Room children collected soft plastics from their lunchboxes for two weeks to form the body of the sea turtle, then cut plastic straws to make the textured flippers. Their message is “plastics kill our sea animals.”
