Me

Artist: Callaghan Shepherd

I have cerebral palsy so my body doesn’t always move the way I want. The way my muscles work has played a big part in this artwork. I’ve tried to express myself by embracing the way my body moves and showing the unique way that people with disabilities can create art. My art teacher helped me to learn new skills, express my story and explore my identity. Its a self-portrait comprised of repurposed materials like cardboard and my daily feeding tubes. I’ve used multiple techniques, such as the resist tape creating textures, using my hands and fingernails for unique experimental markings. I hope to prove to the world not to underestimate individuals who have disabilities.
